Tea and wellbeing on the North Coast
By ELEANOR MCGILLIE 12 July, 2016
We all love a good cup of tea but our desire for new flavours continues to heighten. Live It Experience It blogger, Claire Savage, finds out more about the exciting new tea bar opening in the autumn which will bring some wellbeing on the north coast.
Over the past few years, a myriad of coffee shops has sprung up over the province with the North Coast getting more than its fair share. Avid tea-drinkers, however, can now look forward to the opening of Northern Ireland’s first-ever tea bar, which will welcome patrons to its Coleraine premises this summer.
Infuse promises to be a tea-drinker’s haven, selling specially blended teas along with the ever-popular green and black teas. Infuse Tea Bar, which is expected to open in the autumn, will be run by Áine McGuckian and Duncan Davis, and it couldn’t be opening at a better time with 2016 also being the Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink.
Infuse patrons can subsequently look forward to sipping everything from single estate Assam tea, to special Infuse blends. These include Smoke & Fire – a smoky tea infused with chilli – as well as the Essential Goddess herbal tea, created specifically for women. Also on the menu are Chocolate Rose, Lapsang Souchong, Chai, and Glorious Vanilla teas, as well as a Strawberry Cheesecake Rooibos tea.
“What makes us different from any other café selling tea is the way we brew it,” says Áine, who is qualified in herbal medicine. “For example, we’ll never pour boiling water over green tea, as it destroys the health benefits and the taste of the tea. We’re really particular about the brewing process. Any tea fanatic will know there are different water temperatures required for brewing different types of tea.”
The Infuse tea bar will also have adjoining treatment rooms where various wellness therapies will be available, while a food menu is also planned, featuring hearty, wholesome food and catering to all dietary preferences.
“We’ll have a complementary therapy clinic and herbal medicine area, where Áine will provide herbal medicine services and I’ll do complementary medicines like acupuncture and massage,” says Duncan, a qualified acupuncturist.
Having previously made it to the final of the 2014 Test Town competition, run by the Carnegie UK Trust, Áine and Duncan were able to test their business idea before launching Infuse. They also participated in the Journey to Market programme earlier this year, when they started blending their own teas.
“Since then, we’ve been so focused on our own blends, which puts an exciting twist on it for us,” says Áine. “We’ve had such good feedback about these, especially when we do the local markets. When we open, Infuse will be a really cool place to enjoy your favourite brew!
“We look forward to bringing a bit of wellbeing to the north coast.”
Eleanor McGillie, director of Live It Experience It, said: “What a fantastic experience Áine and Duncan will be able to offer our visitors here in Northern Ireland. Infuse will offer something totally different from new flavours, brewing techniques, health and wellbeing treatments and much more. People living here in Northern Ireland will no doubt love it as much as the international travellers coming to see our beautiful region.”
