TOURISM led businesses have joined forces to promote rural vacations in Tyrone. The county is a great place to stay, is a great place for food and drink and is a place where there is a wealth of activities to keep our visitors enjoying our natural surroundings.
Restaurants, tearooms, activity providers, bakery and cookery schools and accommodation providers are working together in the ‘Live It Experience It’ cluster to attract visitors to the area which is rich in loughs and lakes, hills and valleys, quaint villages and places of historical significance.
Live It Experience It, which is the tourism partner for this year’s North West 200, promotes Northern Ireland through water, land and air based activities, food and drink and places to stay.
Eleanor McGillie, director of Live It Experience It, which is based in the Georgian village of Caledon, said: “We all know the saying that we don’t know what’s on our own doorstep. For many that is so true. But for businesses working in rural communities it’s important to highlight their importance and showcase their offering for our visitors.
“Live It Experience It brings tourism led businesses together to network, refer business to each other and also to create experiences which will tell the story of our place to visitors coming from the south of Ireland and from overseas.
“Tyrone is an amazing county and there’s a plethora of outdoor places to explore such as the Clogher Valleys, the famous Hill of the O’Neills, loughs, fishing lakes, rivers, villages, mountain biking trails and places of historical significance. It’s brilliant to see these businesses coming together and working as a collaboration.”
Tyrone and Armagh members recently met in Aghaloo House in Carnteel just outside Aughnacloy and was hosted by Rachael Reid of Holiday Homes NI.
Rachael said: “My family’s history is steeped in Carnteel and Aghaloo House is where my father grew up. We have transformed his family home into a luxury self catering house and down the road we also have Robeth Cottage. Both properties attract visitors from all over the world. This summer we have had people from Australia, Italy, France, Canada, England and America all staying with us.
“Our visitors tell us that they want to go off the beaten track and explore what rural Tyrone has to offer. Through Live It Experience It we can tell our visitors what there is to do, where there is to eat, what activities there is to do while meeting fellow tourism led businesses which can enhance our offering to our visitors.
“Holiday Homes NI is now working with Caledon Cake Studio, Allens of Caledon Armagh, Digby’s Bar & Restaurant and Go Fitness NI. We all see the need to work together, to refer business and tell the story of this area so our visitors know what they can expect when they visit here. We want to give visitors a good time and not leave them guessing as to what there is to do in the local area.
“The group of businesses have negotiated discount deals for people staying with Holiday Homes NI. Autumn is a great time of the year to explore the great outdoors so we are open for bookings. To check availability and book your stay visit Holiday Homes NI
“This joined up approach through Live It Experience It allows us all to pull our skills together are all working together to attract people to the heart of the beautiful countryside of County Tyrone.”
