Cushendall is such a magical place and is located between Glenariff and Cushendun in the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It’s one of the most stunning places in Northern Ireland to explore and in the heart of the hills is Ballyeamon Barn Hostel.
When you stay at Ballyeamon Barn you will experience a real Irish welcome at the door and throughout your stay.
Ballyeamon Barn is a hostel with a difference. Visitors travelling from all corners of the globe can watch the antics of our native red squirrels, drink our pure mountain spring water and be blown away by our spectacular scenery with its mountains , waterfalls, forests and beaches.
This is a hostel with a difference. It offers modern comfortable budget priced accommodation with 14 bunk beds (with bedding) .
It has free wifi, central heating, fully fitted kitchen with free tea and coffee. There are laundry facilities, a barbeque area and a workshop space which can also be rented by groups.
But it’s much more than just getting a roof over your head while you explore the Glens of Antrim. Ballyeamon Barn has its own ‘session house’ where visitors have the chance to meet local musicians and singers during regular sessions of storytelling and music, free and open to all.
This is a separate apartment beside Ballyeamon Barn. The private bedroom sleeps two but other family members or friends can be included on sofa beds in the bigger outer area. The apartment’s kitchen facilities are in the main hostel.
Ballyeamon Hostel is ideal for writers or artists on retreat. You will find yourself in the peaceful heart of the Glens of Antrim close to Glenariff Forest Park. And if you are a Game of Thrones fan you are within easy driving distances of several of the filming locations.
Ballyeamon Hostel is owned by a storyteller. Liz Weir wants to ensure her guests experience the ‘real’ Northern Ireland, enjoy the craic with the friendly locals and you get to feel like you are part of the community.
There is so much folklore in this area. There’s lots of music, dance and storytelling.
Writer Brian Hollywood stayed at Ballyeamon. Here’s how he described his experience;
“Ballyeamon Barn is the perfect place for a creative retreat. I found it to be the ideal space to focus on writing, not only comfortable but inspiring too. The beautiful area around it is celebrated for its forests, hiking trails and waterfalls. The view out the studio’s big windows from the desk is of greenery and lush woodland. The place manages to be pretty without being distracting, peaceful without being dull. I am a veteran of places where writers go to get away from it all and focus on work. I’ve never got as much work done anywhere as I did over five wonderful days at Ballyeamon. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.”
Whether you want a quiet getaway or if you want to go off and explore with mountain bikes or by hiking this place is the place for you. With so much to do in this area you will not get bored in this remote location.
So put Ballyeamon Hostel at the top of your wander list as you explore the Glens of Antrim – the cultural heart of the Causeway Coastal Route. Discover why Lonely Planet voted Belfast and the Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland the Best in Travel 2018.
