Dermot Cavanagh

Dermot Cavanagh says ‘anyone can paint’.

He is an accomplished artist who has taken the mystery out of painting for thousands of people throughout his career.

The County Tyrone man, who believes anyone with an interest can learn how to paint, is the artist and broadcaster behind the hit BBC TV series ‘Awash With Colour’.

During the 74 episodes broadcast Dermot Cavanagh inspired millions of viewers by teaching a host of celebrities to paint the Irish landscape in this fantastic BBC TV series.

His students have included well known personalities including boxing legend Barry McGuigan, English gardening expert, Charlie Dimmock, the late Gerry Anderson, Valerie Singleton, John Craven and Gloria Hunniford.

A prolific painter all his life, Dermot, from Moy, has had numerous exhibitions of his work and his paintings hang in collectors’ homes around the world. He is regularly commissioned to create original paintings, specialising in his native Irish landscape.

Dermot demonstrates to art clubs and societies and holds painting courses and holidays throughout Britain, Ireland and abroad. He is a published author and has produced many teaching DVDs. He has appeared on various television and radio programmes and is a regular contributor to art magazines.

It’s been over 40 years now since Dermot first took up painting. His beautiful home studio is an airy open-plan space with views over a landscape of rolling hills.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph in 2016 Dermot said: “If you have an interest and the desire to paint, I have the ability and experience to teach you.”

Not only is Dermot a household name here in Northern Ireland but he is also a respected artist right across the UK and Europe and has introduced many people to the joys of painting.

Dermot has a great offering for people in Northern Ireland and people visiting Northern Ireland. Local people and tourists can join him as he takes the mystery out of painting at his many three, four and seven day painting courses, breaks and holidays.

He will also be delighted to partner up with Live It Experience It members who want to offer their guests a unique experience during their stay here.

Dermot Cavanagh

"If you have the interest and desire anyone can learn to paint. People can be shy to express themselves at first - some tell me they haven't slept the night before coming on the course, but they sleep a lot better after it. I look forward to engaging with Live It Experience It members and indeed tourists and people from here who would like to join me on a painting adventure."
