Game of Thrones fans – this tour is for you!

Game of Thrones® is set to bid farewell to Northern Ireland after eight seasons at Titanic Studios in Belfast. Since 2010, cast members have been here and this summer will see the end of the final series being wrapped up before being broadcast next year. Eleanor McGillie chats to Jonny Graham about a special running tour which he is organising for Game of Thrones fans.

It’s been a Game of Thrones whirlwind in Northern Ireland since the HBO hit series Game of Thrones proved instrumental in putting Northern Ireland on the map attracting a very specific fan club to visit our shores.

Game of Thrones fans from across the globe have travelled here to visit The Dark Hedges in Antrim, which is used as the King’s Road. They’ve travelled to Tollymore Forest Park which served as the Haunted Forest from which the White Walkers marched into the realm of men. There’s the beautiful Castle Ward Estate in Co Down which was home to the fictional House of Stark and of course Ballintoy Harbour which  has become synonymous with Pyke and the Iron Islands. And of course Larrybane which was the filming location used for Renly Baratheon’s camp in The Stormlands in Season 2.

The HBO hit series has created a huge boom for tourism here with many Game of Thrones fans visiting Northern Ireland’s filming locations and  tourism businesses acting accordingly by creating experiences for visitors which showcase our beautiful region and what it has to offer.

One such business which offers Game of Thrones fans a very unique experience is Live It Experience It member ‘Born To Run Tours’ which is owned by running enthusiast Jonny Graham.

Jonny is organising a FREE running tour and is reaching out to hardcore Game of Thrones fans to join him on Wednesday, July 4 at 6pm.

Speaking about this experience, Jonny said: “Our running tours are attracting visitors from all over world. But I am doing something quite specific on Wednesday, July 4 and I am looking for five or six hardcore Game of Thrones fans to join me on a running tour.

“It will be a gentle enough 10km tour of the famous sites which have been seen on screens all over the world thanks to HBO – you don’t have to be the fittest runner in the world to do this.

“Our tour will start at the old ruins of Dunseverick Castle and will take us along the beautiful Causeway Coastal Path. We will visit Dunseverick Harbour, pass through Portbradden and run along White Park Baybeach before we make out way towards the Game of Thrones®  filming locations of Ballintoy and Larrybane.

“Ballintoy Harbour has become synonymous with Pyke and the Iron Islands. When we stop here you will get a chance to imagine you are in Lordsport Harbour waiting for Theon Greyjoy as he sails to Pyke with the aim of seeking an alliance between the Greyjoys and Robb Stark.

“You can also visit Ballintoy Beach, which was used for the funeral scene of Balon Greyjoy and the rebirth of his brother Euron (both Season 6)

“Larrybane was the filming location used for Renly Baratheon’s camp in The Stormlands (Season 2).

“You can also stand on the exact spot of the Kingsmoot on the Iron Islands (Season 6). Feel like Yara or Theon as they stake Yara’s claim for the throne. Or join the gathering like Euron, to make his claim.

“This tour will be fantastic so please contact us to express your interest.”
