IT’S the Bank Holiday weekend and you are spoiled for choice for things to do in Northern Ireland. But one thing you can do which you’ll not regret is the guided walking tour of our famous cliff path from Dunseverick to the Causeway. Go on a journey you’ll not forget and enjoy every minute.
Sun, sea, sand and cliff paths. What more can you ask for? If you love walking, love a bit of craic along the way and love our coastline then this just might make your weekend.
Dalriada Kingdom Tours offers a guided walking tour along our famous cliff path most spectacular scenery in Northern Ireland and what an experience this is.
There are four and a half miles to walk between Dunseverick Castle ruins and the iconic Giants Causeway, in Co Antrim. Along the way the scenery is simply beyond compare and it truly is breathtakingly beautiful.
This is a tour which is suitable for couples as a private tour, for groups of people from four to 12 people, a moderate degree of fitness is required and when you book for this weekend make sure and have your sunscreen with you and you’ll definitely need hiking boots or shoes.
The man behind this fantastic tour is Mark Rodgers.
He said: “Anyone who books this tour with Dalriada Kingdom Tours will have uninterrupted views of some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery. You’ll see rich farmland, wildlife, dramatic cliffs, the finest cliff scenery in Europe and you’ll hear some fantastic stories of the people of our shores.
“The highlights for our visitors will be Dunseverick Castle, Portmoon with the Bothy, The heart of Lochaber, The Pulpit, Hamilton’s Seat, Pleaskin Head and Port na Spaniaghand, Lacada Point, which is where the Girona sank. The view and the walk down to the Causeway itself will be absolutely phenomenal.”
The history of this walk is fascinating. The earliest recorded guided walking tour on this pathway was in 1840. The guide on that occasion was Alex McMullan and his guest was an American gentleman for whom he penned a poem about the experience. That poem was published in a small hardback book and today there are seemingly only two copies that exist. One is held in the United States of America in Washington DC in the Library of Congress and the other is held right here on the shore by the McMullan family. The McMullan family history on the Giants Causeway is legendary.
Mark is truly honoured to say that the McMullan family gave him a reproduction copy of the book and Mark is very privileged to call Jean McMullan and her son Dave his friends.
Mark added: “I have walked this pathway on countless occasions with friends, old and new, exploring and developing a guided walk that would honour the memory of Alex McMullan and all the local guides who have walked it with their guests. All the while I was supported and moulded by my guide, William John Purdy to become what I am today – an “auld world” Causeway Guide.
“The Purdys have been here since 1588 and our working life on the Giants Causeway began nearly 130 years ago. We have a genuine history to call upon as a reference in creating this tour.
When you combine all of these facts and you place yourself in the company of a guide you can trust, and who will bring this place to life, then you instinctively know this is the tour to take to enjoy this outstanding Cliff path walk. Any other tour simply lacks our pride, passion and unique insight. This is an experience you will remember all your life.”
The tour itself can take up to four hours and needs to be booked in advance which can be done so HERE
